10.23.2013 ~ Want It Wednesday ~ Plus Size Designer Fashion from Honey’s Child Boutique!

Sometimes, I run across something really special.  During Kansas City Fashion Week, it was the wonderful Hannah Olson of Hannah Caroline Couture, and the fabulous fashions from Florida’s own Cass & Britt.

Last week, I had the opportunity to jaunt down I-70 and witness something truly inspiring.  I heard about this little plus size boutique from a blurb on The Curvy Fashionista’s blog, and the more I read about Honey’s Child Boutique, I thought to myself, “Why have I not heard of these ladies before now!?!”

Honey’s Child Boutique, whose motto is “Embracing Your Curves”, is owned and operated by the uber-fab Letitia McPherson-Young.  While I didn’t get to meet her personally on my trip to the Lou (she was rounding up some killer plus size fashion in Los Angeles while attending the Haute Curves LA Fashion Week event), I did get to stop by the boutique and romp around with Miss Mimi and Miss Angela.

IMG_8697When I say that Honey’s Child Boutique is special, I really do mean it.  The fact is, they are the only boutique in the state that is selling the kinds of plus size clothes that the boutique offers.  While straight size women can find designer fashions on almost every block across the country, for plus size women wanting designer clothes, they almost always have to head to the Internet.  For me, personally, I had never seen up-close 80 percent of the designers offered by Honey’s Child because, most of the time, I am nervous about shopping online due to fit issues.

My visit to Honey’s Child was not only extremely fun, but it was also highly informative.  I learned about amazing new plus size designers such as Youtheary Khmer, and I was also able to try on clothes from a wide variety of plus size designers that I have heard about but never had the opportunity to wear, including Mynt 1792, Monif C, and Qristyl Frazier Designs.

It’s been a year of celebration for Honey’s Child Boutique.  Recently, they celebrated their grand re-opening as they moved to wonderful location on Washington Ave., and now, they are gearing up for another celebration.  On November 2, 2013, Honey’s Child will be having a ball from 11a-3p as they celebrate their two-year anniversary.  If you haven’t been to Honey’s Child Boutique, take this opportunity to head down there and party with Letitia, Mimi, and Angela and get your hands on that perfect designer piece to add to your wardrobe!

10.19.2013 ~ Saturday Special ~ OUTFIT POST ~ Getting Into Fall With My Favorite Things

My favorite time of the year is fall.  Maybe it’s because the changing of the leaves, maybe it’s because I adore the smell of burning wood, or maybe it’s just because I absolutely love my fall wardrobe!

As many of us know here in Kansas City, fall is upon us.  If the dropping temperatures weren’t enough to remind us, then the mix of sleet and snow in parts of Kansas all the way to the city on Friday certainly should have been enough to slap us in the face and say, “See!  I told ya so!”

I’ve added a few new pieces to my wardrobe this season, including the fabulous black faux leather and ponte jacket from Dressbarn featured in this post.  I’ve also stocked up on thick, long-lasting leggings in basic colors, including black and burgundy, and of course, I’m breaking out the boots!!!!!

There are so many reasons why I adore a good boot, especially a riding boot.  They are comfortable, chic, and extremely versatile.  You can dress them up, or dress them down, and they almost always immediately add a hint of sophistication to an outfit.

Here’s a look at my first fling with fall fashion!

The scarf is from Target (old – similar here), boots are from Deb (old – similar here), and the earrings are from Bohme (similar here).  Also, I’m playing around with some new lipstick colors. This color is Mulberry, but I’m thinking I’d like to try something a bit darker.  What do you gals think?  Is it a “go-to” or a “try again”????

10.5.2013 ~ Quick Post ~ Kansas City Fashion Week Fall 2013

Hey, ya’ll!  So I had a blast kicking off Kansas City Fashion Week, so much so that I suffered a little injury!
